In the article “The End of Australia as We Know It” by Damien Cave reflects on the most recent tragedy of 2020. The fires that occurred in Australia were catastrophic and left tremendous consequences for not only the people but the animals. The fires seemed to be never ending, and the air was nothing but ashes and fog. In this article, the author is basically letting the readers know that Australia has taken its precautions, and though the majority of the fires have stopped the fear is still there. Many people’s lives have been tremendously affected and changed. Most people can’t even work their jobs due to the lack of clean air. These people are barely living and aren’t able to sufficiently provide for their families. Although this fire occured in one place, there is a bigger picture of climate change. A political scientist says, “If there’s not a major shift that comes out of this, we’re doomed,”. This tragedy should be a wakeup call and inspire change. The government needs to start taking our health and earth seriously.
